Tracking on an AT&T Tilt

Post by GeekDrew »

I installed AccuTracking v2.0 for Windows Mobile on my AT&T Tilt a few days ago -- this is the first I've used AccuTracking. I'm using the following settings:

Interval: 1 min
Smart sending: off
Auto interval: on
Password protection: off
Cache size: 2000

Whenever I'm in the car, the tracking application indicates that it has a fix -- or at least it updates the "Last fix" field to indicate that it has a signal almost every second. What I'm trying to figure out is why it isn't sending or caching the data around once per minute. I had the phone sitting on the seat beside me on the way home from work today, and it indicated (in the last fix field) that it had a fix almost 100% of the time. When I check tracking history, though, it only has 8 entries for the hour that I was driving around. I can understand caching records and uploading them periodically, or while the cell signal is down, but there doesn't appear to be any cached records.

Is this normal/expected behavior, or is there something wrong?

"Better reception" meaning cellular, or GPS? If it's GPS, I could understand that, because then it wouldn't be able to determine where I am. But in that case, why would it be continually updating the "last fix" field? If you were talking about cellular reception, why wouldn't it cache the points for later upload?

Cached reports are ONLY for cellular reception (actually, lack thereof...).

I don't have any experience on the Tilt so I can't offer any suggestions other than to clarify the cached reports...

Please try to reduce your cache size and restart the application. It appears to be a memory issue.

I've reduced my cache size from 2000 (the default? I don't recall changing it) to 1000. I'll change it to whatever is suggested, to see if it improves the situation. :)

Thanks. Please keep me posted. Meanwhile we are checking what's the exact cause.

Well, I think that part of the problem was a misunderstanding of how the program works. My Tilt was set to "turn off" when I haven't used the device in 1 minute. I assumed that it would continue working in the background while the phone was "off", just as some other programs do (FlexMail, for example). When I told it to never "turn off", it appears to be updating much more regularly... as I would have originally expected.

Is there any way to get it to work while the Tilt is "turned off", as I've seen other apps do? If not, my sincerest apologies for not having checked something as simple as power management before I posted this thread. It was completely remiss of me.

Also, I did encounter another error in AccuTracking:
AccuTracking.exe
ObjectDisposedException

at
System.Windows.Forms.Control.InvokeHelper()
at
AccuTracking.AccuTrackingForm.gps_LocationChanged()
at
AccuTracking.Gps.WaitForGpsEvents()
Any idea with that one? I certainly hope I'm not doing something stupid that could cause those errors.

This is more like because the device was turned on from hibernation. We'll check the power management.
