SprintPcs

Post by jmjii »

Newbie here. Found site on "Giggle."

Pardon my shortness & lack of proper grammer. Using Sprint Treo 650 w/unlimited data plan (Visions Pack) for this. Can be tough if you're "all thumbs" :) Also have same on Samsung A-740 for elderly mother.

Is anything available, or in the works, for personal use with Sprint and the products listed? The listed equip. is all latest tech. Would LOVE to have access to your services.

Respectfully submitted.

the biggest problem of porting it to other handsets and carriers is, nextel/motorola not only make the programming tools and software for programs like this avalible, they encourage development of things like this.

:( Do you think with the Sprint/Nextel merger that Spint will pick up on this. I have spoken to them and was told very candidly by a sympathetic CSR that, as usual, unless Sprint is able to make a $ it won't likely be made available without subscription.

Have a nice one!:)

Device/Svc Provider Issue?

Post by jmjii »

:?: Pardon my ignorance. I am confused. It appears as you are stating that this more of a device/OS issue rather than a provider issue. Is this the case? If so, wouldn't it be possible to write a 3rd party application which would bypass any provider's restrictions?

EXAMPLE: I have found a company that provides an app. which allows one to use Palm Smartphones as modems without incurring any additional charges (regardless of provider) so long as one subscribes to an unlimited data plan. I'm sure that a writer would be able to also do the same for any data capable device should there be demand. Shouldn't this be possible for AccuTracking as well?

The primary thing that a developer needs access to are the gps protocols of the phone, and the ability to gather and transmit the data.
Motorola chooses to make it open on the iden handsets. Nextel chooses to provide further documentation and assistance for it.

without access to the gps, then no, its not possible.

  Thank you for your assistance in this matter. You have been a help.:) I'll keep checking back. At least AccuTracking is "on the right track" and I can only hope others will get on board. I see that this topic has generated some interest and that there must be others out there who are like me.

Respectfully submitted.:)
