I think, Verizon offers some sort of tracking service, but I could be wrong.

Not to my knowledge. While GPS apps are beginning to appear on other carriers, NextelSprint iDEN is still to only platform that I am aware of that allows open access to GPS data and allows that data to be sent directly to a host. I've heard that Sprint has done something to open up the Blackberry GP...

Button settings reverting to the defaults

Hi, In preparing phones for distribution, we use the Settings>Personalize menu option to set the assignable keys (arrows, softkeys, OK and Power Up) to run the MIDlet. This is basic phone functionality and it has worked well, or at least we thought so. Recently we have discovered 7 or 8 phones, out ...

Thanks for the verification. I'm working with Nextel to see what needs to be done to get it working. I'll post again when I have an answer. I suspect the phone just needs to be set to allow it, indicating that the phone has "opt'ed in" to international data roaming so that it can be billed.

Roaming to Canada, does it require provisioning?

Hi, Does anyone know if the data service will work on a Nextel phone that is taken across the border to Canada? Does the phone need to be provisioned ahead of time to allow international data roaming? I tried calling Sprint, but the phone tree eventually dumped me to "The number you are calling...

The app will not work on this phone. It doesn't have J2ME support and it's not on the Nextel/SLinc network. Sorry.

I think the question is, does the web page automatically refresh the map display at a particular interval? I don't know for sure, but I don't think it does. This might be a good candidate for the Wish List.

I wouldn't say absolutely "no" to getting a GPS fix in a warehouse. It all depends on many factors such as the type of construction (metal/wood), whether or not there are windows/skylights, etc.

We got our phones switched over to the unlimited plan and all seems to be working well. I still hear comments from people in the biz that they haven't hear about this new plan and it's been available for over a month.

Unfortunately, you sometimes have to look very closely to determine whether or not a particular Nextel phone is Java-enabled. The i205 is certainly GPS-enabled, but if you can find the fine-print on the web site you'll see: "Supports non-Java location-enhanced services such as Mobile LocatorTM....

If at some point in the future, Accutracking makes use of the JSR-179 Location API, then porting to other J2ME platforms would be a possiblity. Given that only one or two of the newest Nextel models supports this API, I can understand why Accutracking hasn't pursued this development path. Especially...

Make sure you are running v2.1 or later. There was a bug with Smart Sending disabled prior to this version.

I'd be interested in hearing what you find out. I see that same plan on the Sprint site, but it's not clear to me if the unlimited data access applies to data transmission by a Java app on the phone. It only talks about data transferred from a PC/PDA connected to the phone. Frankly, I'm not sure how...

Nextel's international data coverage is very limited. You can refer to this link to see where coverage is available. The UK is not one of them.
