My i870 seems to only send my location when I open the phone. The application is running in the background but the send just doesn't happen. Is there something I need to change?

Honestly, the first thing I would do is return that I870 while you can. I had 3, count them 3 I870 phones all with problems in different areas. I took a loss and ended up getting something else. 2 other folks at work are having problems as well with that same unit, its just a bad phone. I don't know if this is your problem but that is just my recommendation.
