Does the GPS antenna use the antenna that the phone uses or is it embedded deep into the phone?
Will external antenna's work with the GPS function?
I would like to conceal the phone as much as possible and would like to use an external antenna wired up to a covert location.
Has anyone had any luck on something like this?

If you install the phone in a location that has minimal obstructions you will not need the antenna. If it is a back deck, try installing under the carpeting of the back deck. I have analyzed several cars looking for a place to install so that it can not be seen. Most cars have a place for this and the i415 seems to still get a good signal.
Hope this helps!

I have mine on the inside of my engine compartment connected directly to the adjacent battery. Make sure its facing up and not down I have tested this and get much better readings when it is facing up. I have it under the front grill which is still protected from the elements yet gets a good satelite signal.

I read a posting from someone that said there is an antenna port on the i415 but you have to drill the back of the phone. I have never heard of an actual antenna but I would think one could contact motorola to ask directly.
Awesome!!!!!!!

I've tried different locations in my vehicle and I'm impressed with the quality of signals I get. I've had it in my center console with the lid closed and it still picks up. Right now it's in my wifes car behind the grill. I've got it updating every minute and on hot gps...awesome results.
Don't get me wrong, I trust my wife I just need to cooberate her stories lately. Anyway the grill works great with a hot power off the battery!

Does facing "up" meaning the keypad facing the sky or the back of
the phone for best GPS reception????

You all know its illegal to track someone without their knowledge. Recently a man was arrested for doing just that with his girlfriend. Its pretty stupid to do
