Smart Sending on G1

how does smart sending on G1 work? Does it force a ping every 30 minutes even if no movement is detected?
And can smart sending on the G1 save battery life?

The G1 smart sending has no heartbeat function as on iDEN phones. We'll add that in the next version. Smart sending would save the network connection so should consume a bit battery, but considering already many applications on G1 accessing the network, the save is not significant.
