Boost data plan or not

Post by gworrel » Fri Jun 21, 2013 11:56 am

Last year I was using Instamapper with Boost iden phones for tracking in my business vehicles. With that setup I only needed to keep the phones activated at a cost of about $10 per phone every 3 months. No data plan was needed, even though Instamapper said that it would be.

Will Accutracking work with any current Boost phones without the data plan? Apparently the iden phones were sending the gps updates without any data plan active.

Since we are not using the phone functions, would a dedicated gps device be cheaper?

The "free" data is no more on CDMA phones. iDEN network had an technically inherited flaw that could allow that loop whole but CDMA doesn't have such.
You'll need the .50/day data plan.

We are going to sell the new starter kit based on TK103A tracker in less than 2 weeks:

Or if you want to buy your own tracker, we support the following list of dedicated GPS tracking devices: http://support.accutracking.com/kb/article/000104

For the basic GPS tracking features, these trackers perform similar.
TK102-2 is cheap and works well. You can get it from eBay.

These trackers uses a 2G or 3G SIM card (not 4G) to transmit the real time location data to our server. We recommend PTel Sim Cards (either a Mini-SIM or a Combi-SIM is fine) and their Real Paygo Plan which costs 10 cents/MB data.

For regular location updates every a couple of minutes, it usually uses 25~30MB/month data.
