What phone plan do I need to use AT: with SMS/data or w/out?

I'm testing this software at the moment with my expensive phone and data plan which is not cost feasible in a long run. I wonder if I can use this AT without data(internet) plan, or even without text plan.
Other issue I ran into is the software just freeze, no response for several hours. I have to restart it. Phone using currently: Blackberry 9630 and HTC 3G Dash(window mobile)
