Hi.
I came across this site and it's very interesting. I have a few questions.
Here's my situation.
I am a sound engineer working for a large cruise company. I would like to have a tracking device that I can keep in my cabin that outputs to my blog or maybe even facebook.
If I keep it in my cabin, which is on one of the lower decks of the ship, would it get reception through the metal hull? I do have a small sealed porthole with thick glass I could put the device near I guess.
Also, what device would you guys recommend, and what type of plan would I need.
Do these units also work in open sea?
Thanks

I seriously doubt that it would work in the below cabins - you can try the GPS - but I doubt it.

Also, you need cell service to bring it back on - and the Boost option wont work - as iDEN does not really cover the high seas.

Do you have an on-board cellular system? Or just satellite? If its just satellite comms. then your going to be out of luck there too.

Data pricing, away from terrestrial points - is VERY expensive.
