despite having all the right phone and software (Motorola Q WM5)- no luck running the program with Verizon here either.

Verizon chooses to disable GPS on the phone except for 911 calls. So even if you have one of the supported phones, AccuTracking won't work.

Since Verizon has stated that are going to start allowing "other" phones, which means
features will not be turned off like GPS, will this change things for the future?

If GPS is accessible by 3rd party applications, AccuTracking should work. If you Google"Verizon disable GPS", you'll see lots of discussions.

verizon recently enabled gps (on my BIS blackberry). somebody might want to revisit this possibility.
