I am concerned with the 8-12hr battery life on the boost 425 phones. I wonder if the s/w can compare the current location with the last location sent, and only transmit if the delta is sufficiently large, say > 10 yards.
This will save the battery from transmitting stale data when the phone is stationary.
Is this possible to do?

It is possible to do - and its one of the 1st features in the setup...
However it will not change your battery life - more than a few minutes... The phone takes power when its on - and it transmits and receives at idle - communicating with the tower, and such.
Also to know the location, the GPS must stay active - and take takes more power than the other stuff.
So if you have it set for 1 minute, or 30 minutes, your battery life will be about the same - you might get an extra hour - but not much more.
The i425 is 8-12 hours tops, on a good day.
If you need more than 8 hours (and who does not...) we offer a special motion circuit that we can install in your phone, or if you don't have a phone, we have them too. We offer the motion board, and extended battery setup - and that gives you about 3-4 WEEKS of average drive time - that work better 8 hours for you?
Our solution interfaces with your AccuTracking account and works excellent!
Email or call, were glad to help out.
Eric

Thanks for the reply. You solution looks interesting. I wonder though, does the GPS need to be active all the time if the interval is set to > 2min? I understand that there is a lock time required, but in my experience, the lock time for most GPS is only ~1min or less.
So what I am thinking is this: 1. If the send interval is set sufficiently large, have the S/W turn off everything, and to into standby mode 2. When the interval expired, the S/W wakes up everything including the GPS, waits for the lock, compare the new position to the old position. Send the new position only if the delta is greater than some threshold, say 10 yards, or 50 yards.
This should extend the battery life to an acceptable level.

I can assure you, you won't see much change by adjusting the software.
AT has the 'smart send', it will force a data send, every 30 minutes, but if it does not move more than xxx, then it won't send. But it does not know if it has moved, if it does not turn the GPS on every xxx to find out where it is - to see if its out of its range.
Does that help? Nextel has a lot of "overhead" when it comes to talking to the tower, checking in, etc. Just place your phone near a speaker for a while - you will hear each time it 'talks' back and forth...
