It's an unmanned balloon, so I think it is legal to use. re-read my second post. nextel is a SMR radio, not a cell phone. In theory, its legal. Then read my first post. It most likely wont work anywhere above 10-15. It will work at any point that the balloon is low enough though. So for a recovery ...

look punk. i think my standing here is at a point where you shouldnt lecture me on morals. theft of service would be finding some way around of using web features without paying for the web, or using that "get free walkie-talkie" code you can buy on ebay (On that subject, yes it works, and...

depends on your morals.

i use the phone regularly, they get my money regularly. they make their profit off of my 4 lines.

so, they can deal with my not paying them 20 cents a day. not my fault the packet data is provisioned.

Theres no option for a passive gps antenna that will work, however, if your network signal is low, a 800-900 smr antenna will help that, which will help the tracking. covert options are out there. not so covert options are out there too. i honestly didnt care about adding a 5th antenna (now 6th) to ...

fyi. use of a cell phone on a plane, any plane, including a private plane or hot air balloon is still illegal in the states. the only reason i got away with it, it was a nextel, and a goverment owned nextel. nextel is still technically a smr radio, not a cell phone. which explains why the hot air ba...

well. the in-theory of that is, when you're up there, you're usually on a plane, and a cell can interfere with the plane's instruments, so thats a no -no. at that altitude... yeah, you're probably not going to be able to reach a cell tower anyway. Explaination on that, is the cell towers broadcasts ...

i cant believe people still fall for that stupid thing. sheesh. installing that in your nextel unit might actually make gps signal worse. it blocks the gps antenna. If signal is actually an issue, best fix is to increase signal to the phone itself using an external antenna or booster. the network fi...

wilson makes one. i have one on my cherokee. you'll have to get a adaptor that will work, i think the i605 adaptor is the correct one. however, you'll need to drill thru the battery door for the adaptor to work. if you open your batt door, you'll see the contact by the upper right corner of the batt...

it may be the program asking for permission for the gps data, set that to always.
Also, it may be someone chirping your phone. even if the volume is set to 0 on everything, that would still be out loud.

yeah. oops.

and main advantage is the fact that it has a battery thats twice as big.
at 5 minute waypoints, it should give you 2-3 days worth at least.

plus the RF on it is alot better so it should be able to get a signal better then the tiny fixed antenna on the 415
