I know of no other carrier that is planning to offer similar capabilities required to support a tracking solution like Accutracking. At least not for the next 6 months.
Of course anything's possible.

Nice work! Kudos! :D

One question, what's the limit on the number of points that can be displayed? I seem to be only able to get a google map if I limit my data range to one hour. I'm collecting on a 1 minute interval.

UPDATE The i605 is recording position and sending data to the server, but I have noticed some anomolies: 1. When data is sent during the noon hour, the hour displays as 0, for example: 0:34:23 PM. 2. The Send and Mesg menu items are missing from the application's menu. They are still available from ...

I've loaded the i710 version onto a i355 and it is working just fine. If you don't need the IS capability of the i325 IS, then the i355 is definitely the way to go. Much nicer display (big and bright), backlit keys, retractable antenna. Nice phone.

It's the TCP/IP network overhead. To open a TCP socket connection to a server, send a byte of data and close the connection results in almost 500 bytes of data used. That's the cold hard fact. Accutracking uses HTTP which has additional overhead because at least two open/close sequences occur. The r...

Yes. I believe most of the 3 digit series phone (i7xx, i3xx, i8xx) support the ability to assign a Java app to run at power up.

Per a post on the Nextel Developers site, shared plans do exist. I don't know the specifics, like if there is a minimum number of phones required etc. See http://developer.nextel.com/portal/generic.jsp?beanID=60&viewID=viewMessage&message=3176&thread=1209&parent=3160&forum=10 You...

I've used Accutracking and an i730 for over a year and I've had little to no problems with the GPS acquisition. The phone does depend heavily on the availability of a Nextel tower in order to speed the time it takes to acquire. I've seen it take several minutes to acquire in an area with no Nextel c...

I haven't yet tried Accutracking on a i355, but I should have that opportunity by the end of the week. I do run it on an i325. From what I can gather, the 355 is very similar to the 325 with the exception that it is not rated "Intrinsically Safe", it has a retractable antenna and a larger ...

Make sure you don't put it in a metal box. Under the hood probably isn't the best place because of the metal and the heat. If you were to put it inside a plastic bumper cover or the like you should get some GPS. You might also get satisfactory results putting it in the glovebox or in a seat pocket.

No offense taken. I'm just curious why it doesn't work, as the literature would seem to indicate that it would. The original post was from 10/2004, so maybe there's been an update to the phone's firmware that might make a difference.

I only asked because according to the Nextel J2ME Developer's Guide, the i285 supports the Location API and most all of the other APIs that the Accutracking app probably uses. Of course, I did read it, so that doesn't necessarily make it true. You know what they say about believing everything you re...
