understand why your mountain example worked, but a aircraft at altitude would not work? Plausible, but not definitive. The figure is captioned as qualitative, not quantitative. Also, the simple experiments described used voice comms; it may be that repeated attempts at sending a short data packet s...

re: legality. There are some relevant links collected at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_phones_on_aircraft (see "Relevant Laws"). However, if you follow the link to reference 7 (http://www.house.gov/transportation/aviation/07-15-05/07-15-05memo.html) you will see that Nextel is listed...

The problem is actually worse than I indicated in my earlier message. An incoming call or text message -- apparently any kind of alert -- will also turn the light on, and leave it on, when there is an external supply. For example, the recent message Boost sent to all subscribers about the increase i...

Art meets Accutracking

This is probably a first for Accutracking(?). I have been involved with a project that embeds cellphones, running Accutracking, into art objects. The project is part of the ZeroOne electronics art festival starting in San Jose, CA, this coming weekend. The objects are life-size cutouts depicting Sil...

BlackBerry: auto restart on exit?

What does the option "auto restart on exit" do? I can't find a mention of it anywhere.

Re: i415 backlight remains on when charging: how to turn off

[replying to my own question, just for the record...] I found a hack that disables the backlight with the charger attached. 1. Attach charger, start Accutracking app (either order) 2. Choose menu item "run in background"; "Suspended apps" dialog appears, backlight goes off. 3. Le...

i415 backlight remains on when charging: how to turn off?

I'm using an i415 unattended, connected to a lead-acid battery.
The backlight turns on and stays on when the battery is attached via the charger cable.
Is there any way to shut it off, to extend the battery's life? The backlight timer doesn't appear to operate when the cable is attached.
