I think most people just leave the phone powered up all the time and hooked to a source that is powered all the time.
The small amount of power used by the phone won't cause any significant drain on a car battery.

smart sending not working
I guess my problem may not be the same, as the reporting of postions stops entirely when the car is parked. With smart sending disabled, I get reports approx. every 5 minutes.
I am using the latest version (3.3.0), but the previous version behaved the same.

Weak cell signal, but no cached positions.
I have a problem with low cell signal. Lose postions for hours at a time, then begins providing locations again. The phone doesn't require reset, but will just begin working again when the signal is srong again (one bar minimum). I don't have the program set to start when phone powered up, so I assu...

Poor tracking coverage
Interesting, -I am getting spotty performance from my tracking phone. Boost mobile I415. It was working great up until a week or 2 ago. Status icons show sometimes weak GPS signal, but more often a weak cell signal- even at the exact location that previously had a strong signal. I thought maybe my p...

Okay, after much effort I got it working. I discovered that to change to numeric input I had to not only push the menu button, but to hold it until the menu came up allowing the change. So after that got taken care of, I was still only able to input 9 characters (same after several software loads). ...

I didn't want to do the uninstall due to the existing version working okay. Well- I followed your advice, and now have no working software on the phone! Same problem with both versions - won't take more than 9 digits in the tracker ID window, and always defaults to alpha characters. I make sure the ...

Updating to newer version
Trying to update to latest software revision, but after loading into phone (i415), I find that the tracker ID window will only accept 7 characters, and my tracker ID is 10 characters. I didn't try creating a new tracker ID for concern of being charged for another unit. Also, the software always want...

I removed the cigar lighter outlet from a junk car and wired it into the trunk light of our car. Then a car charger to the phone can be plugged in an is concealed below the rear deck. The trunk light has power all the time, so the phone stays on. It has been working that way for a month, just quit o...

Timestamp inaccuracies on cached records
The normal records seem to be timestamped correctly, but the cached records have an inaccurate timestamp. The result is that the history tracking lines go berserk. Example: car driving along road, timestamp 1:00pm, next location in weak nextel signal area, cached timestamp 10:30am, next location wit...
