I've had similar difficulties with the i325. I don't understand why they'd release a version of phone firmware that won't let you download apps. They are just preventing possible revenue opportunites.

If any one has purchased an i710 phone within the last couple of weeks and you have the R2b.02.02 software it will not accept a download yet. You will have to wait until Nextel updates their website with this latest software.

I found this out after spending hours trying the older versions (R2b.02.01 & R2b.02.00) and working with Nextel's Customer Support. The only conclusion that we could come to is that until they [Nextel] update their website Accutracking will not work on the phone. They could not give me a time frame of when this would happen.
