Turn OFF hot gps, and make your send interval a bit further apart. Battery life will improve. But what you see is about what you get.
Hot GPS does not allow the GPS receiver to "Cool down" between sends, thereby increasing battery consumption. It is not needed if you don't need positioning each and every minute.
