The fiber optics relates entirely to your sound system and how sound is sent from the deck to the speakers/amps. Your car still runs on 12v, you can still power the phone from your car no problem.

As for the audio installer not touching your car, he probably was just being lazy or it would have not been worth the price and did not want to run traditional speaker wire along side the already existing fiber optics.

Silly luxury cars always trying something new and often "risky" rather than using quality tried and true solutions for things...

Thanks for confirming. I sent you an email from a yahoo account referencing my screenname and accutracking in the sub line. I will look forward to hearing back from you.

Feel free to email me direct at the address in my sig - its good and valid. I wish you the best of luck with your install - as they are always fun.

Thank you for your response.

I have read on many threads that the enhanced battery with motion sensor is a good solution.

I would like to find out how much these run and how long shipping takes.

Please reply to let me know that your email addy is good/active and I will email to request this info.

I am concerned about the fiber optics because stereo installers refused to work on the car/install a CD changer years ago due to the fiber optic system in the car. The installers claimed they would not touch it due to the fiber optics (it's a lexus) and that only the dealership should do it. I suspect this is either not an issue anymore OR there *are* some installers that will do it on such cars as accutracking's pic suggesting places to locate the phone displays a Mercedes.

Again thanks for your response. I am trying to get as informed as I can so the process runs smoothly once I have the necessary gear.

You can swap the battery out at anytime you want - you will not lose your settings for volume etc - as they are non-volitile.

Fiber optics? I don't know of any car that uses fiber optics for their stuff - so that is not a problem. You can hardwire it several different ways.

Or you can use a larger battery and/or a motion board for increased battery life.

Switching out battery

by curioustoknow » Wed Dec 05, 2007 12:53 pm

Hey there. I have been reading all over the forum pages looking for some info regarding the feasibility of switching out the battery pack on the i415.

If one has regular access to the i415 and prefers not to hotwire into a vehicle, would replacing the drained i415 battery with a fresh i415 battery cause alot of kinks and problems with using the accutracking software?

For example, I could see switching battery packs necessitating the volume, display, etc settings on the phone being reset in order to maintain discretion.

Also, can someone educate me as to the difficulty of getting a phone hotwired into the car when it uses fiber optics, if this is at all relevant?

I assume fiber optics relates to the sound system and not the power system and I shouldn't worry about attempting installation using a run of the mill stereo/navigation installation place?

Any information is much appreciated!
