GPS Mapping

by shep043 » Thu Jan 12, 2006 2:48 pm

I've looked into the TrimbleOutdoors also. I'm going with SPOT from skylab-mobilesystems.com. They use an OPEN GIS fomat (free) and have a pile of web sites to get a basemap and detail needed to utilize this great feature. I use work in a survey office and am very comfortable with GIS and GPS locating. Get some info and give it a try.

I'm not into these location based services ($$$$) and applaud this free service.

THanks for adding the i605 support. THat'll be my phone choice.

NEXTEL GPS MAPs - Not

For those of you wha are considering using/paying for Nextel's GPS capability, their maps are really really bad. I signed up for a minute. The maps looked like Nextel tried to create them. They were so bad I could not determine where I was. Don't waste your money. If Nextel wants GPS customers they need to provide a real solution and samples of their maps that look as good or better than the maps here. My thoughts are saving you some duckies.
