Good you hear you got yours working. I'll try your firmware update, but which firmware was it(AT or Moto?)? Where to download? I will check my phone for this version, even though I bought it less than a month ago, and maybe that will solve my problems.

I have seen posts that this connector on the back under the cover is for an antenna, but I am hoping for "proof" and info on connector type prior to going to the expense of buying an external antenna (especially if it is an antenna optimized for GPS)

Old iDEN phones like i58sr, i88s use separate antennas for phone and GPS. All newer phones including i415 share one antenna for both. That's why people see i58sr/i88s have better GPS reception than other phones (see discussion viewtopic.php?t=822 )

We don't have a dissemble image and I am no hardware engineer to break one. I don't think it'll help much unless you real know what you are doing.

Does anyone have an old I415 they can take apart and tell us where the PGS antenna is? maybe a picture?

Does anyone known what type of connector is in the back of the phone, under the cover (ie is it a BNC, sma (I'v pretty sure its not these), MCX or what?
Does anyone know if this back connector is indeed an antenna connection, and if so, for the phone or for the gps or for both functions?

The reason I ask is that if one can add an external gps antenna then that will solve "half" the problems I see on this forum (including my own), but I have not been able to find the answers to these questions anywhere, nor do I have a brocken phone to check out.

If no answer from a user, maybe AccuTracking support can take one of their returns apart and tell us.

I actually had some old broke phones that I took the GPS antenna out of and mounted it in the phone that wasn't getting satellite. The GPS antenna is located in the top of the back of the housing. It is about one inch square with two prongs on it. Now it works.

I was always under the impression the antenna for the gps was integrated with the regular antenna.

Did they just replace the phones, or did they fix the problem?

1.Make sure the phone has the 88.02.00 upgrade or higher or it wont pick up the satelite.
2.Also if your using a used or refurbished phone make sure it has the gps antenna in it.(this ended up being my problems,both)
NOTE:IF THESE 2 THINGS ARENT RIGHT THE PHONE WILL NOT
AUTO LAUNCH.

Regarding your other issues.... The phone that Java apps is not working on sounds like it MIGHT be a phone issue. Also no GPS position, even if you are outside also might be a phone issue.

I have three i58sr phones already activated with Nextel on the 1mg data total connect plan only with private I.P. and Accutracking. They've worked great for the past four months with no problems.
Four days ago I called Nextel to add three more used phones to my account with the same 1mg data total connect plan only with private I.P. and no phone service. They did so and the SIM chips appeared to be working. I was getting a full signal strength and I.P. icon on the main menu. I double checked the SIM chips in my other four phones and they worked great and the functions worked great.

1st problem: One of the phones upon power-up goes into Java Apps menu and just idles there. When I press run it goes into Accutracking and starts sending data. When the phone is powered off then back on it goes back into the Java Apps and continues to idle and won't automatically run.
NOTE: Smart send and hot GPS are disabled.

2nd problem: Two of the phones do exactly the same as the first phone. But if you press run, it acts like it wants to run and continues to say "refreshing, no fix." It never goes into sending the data. I checked the GPS position and it just gave me all zeros even though I hit refresh.

Here are a list of steps, in order, that we have performed on the phones.
1. Master reset.
2. Uploaded the R88.02.01 software upgrade with Java default.
3. Turned phone off then on.
4. Went to Java Apps and installed Download Apps.
5. Ran Download Apps.
6. Went back to main screen.
7. Uploaded Accutracking version 2.1.7
8. Installed the Accutracking.
9. Then ran it.
10.Went to menu/setup.
11.Put in tracker ID number/send interval.
12.Pressed OK
13.Went back to main screen.
14.Programmed the privacy setting to unrestricted.
15.Programmed power-up Apps to Java Apps.
16.Went back to main screen.
17.Powered off phone.
18.Powered on phone.

I've also tested about six other phones that I have and they are all doing the same thing. I need them to go into the Accutracking and start sending data every time it is powered up. If you can help me with this problem, I would really appreciate it.
