The "free" data is no more on CDMA phones. iDEN network had an technically inherited flaw that could allow that loop whole but CDMA doesn't have such.
You'll need the .50/day data plan.

For the basic GPS tracking features, these trackers perform similar.
TK102-2 is cheap and works well. You can get it from eBay.
These trackers uses a 2G or 3G SIM card (not 4G) to transmit the real time location data to our server. We recommend
PTel Sim Cards (either a Mini-SIM or a Combi-SIM is fine) and their Real Paygo Plan which costs
10 cents/MB data.
For regular location updates every a couple of minutes, it usually uses 25~30MB/month data.
